Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA
Mark Williams' work is both playful and deeply symbolic, created strictly with thick acrylic paint on paper, and dealing exclusively with people and relationships. The subjects of his paintings are families, couples, and companions. Although he never paints solitary figures, the absence of a character's mouth, the positioning of their back to the viewer, or the distance between figures, are indicators of what lies beneath the surface. In addition to the distinct content of his paintings, Williams' work is also unique in his thick application of acrylic paint, resulting in rubber-like textures that enhance the laboriously detailed elements of each piece.
